Nobody needs them. Everybody hates them. Even after more than 10 years of Activities, no non-KDE application worth mentioning uses them. My suggestion: worry about "different wallpapers and widgets on all desktops" instead. "Activities" used to be a nice addition, but since they have apparently become the holy grail for KDE developers, you can't admit -even after almost 7 years- that it is an aberration. Of course, it is also possible that the KDE software developers just don't know how to do bring different wallpapers and widgets back. No one likes to admit that. However, after 7 Years of waiting, I finally stopped my monthly donation for the KDE Project and changed this to XFCE. One last word to Nate Graham: If you didn't lie to us, the developers obviously lied to you and you're going to have to sit this one out.
