Personally I haven't experienced this problem for years (!) any more and given the past I fear that this is a driver issue. Which can make it difficult to investigate. We might need much more information from everyone experiencing this issue. It is possible that this is a driver/distro specific problem. Thus I would like anybody experiencing the problem as first step try whether the issue also persist on a Wayland session. This is extremely important to know whether the problem is only X11 specific or also on Wayland and thus in general.
