Very interesting bug. First of all: are you still seeing it?
If yes:
* how are your screens setup? Is it static through X configuration or is it
dynamically through an xrandr call or kscreen?
* if not static: what is the xrandr output before starting? (I want to know
whether ksplash is correct at start)
* what happens if you disable compositing? Is it still getting fixed or does it
stay broken?
