That's why I eventually switched to Manjaro and situation seems to have improved a lot. Nevertheless dolphin is still accumulating memory over time. But it now also releases memory once in a while and tends to get back to memory consumption of less than 100 MB per dolphin instance. And I noticed one interesting thing. If I hibernate - suspend to disk - the laptop memory usage drops to around 20 or even less per instance, Unfortunately after wake-up all instances get very busy and memory usage at least the last time was back to something between 150 and 500 MB each within seconds. BTW, in Comnment4 and Comnment5 I wrote that the situation worsened after hibernating the laptop. That is not true. It should have written after suspending (to RAM). Sorry for the confusion.
