I'm getting the exact same problem. 4.2.1 appimage and 4.2.2 appimage on
Ubuntu 20.04 default desktop.
Tried deleting .local/shared/krita and .cache and .kde directories at various
points of troubleshooting hoping they would regenerate fresh/uncorrupted when
re-opening Krita, but the problem kept coming back.
I also noticed during the problem that all the shortcut keys are gone, and
eraser mode doesn't work (even when I click the toolbar button).
Let me know if there are any logs I can provide.
Switching back to 4.2.9 (via apt install krita) fixes the problem.
