I agree. That should be an option. So give the user a choice:
lookups of mime/icon should be one of:
- do always, no matter what
- do heuristic, when too slow do either:
- switch over to a simple determing of mime by looking at extension
(in stead of the first x bytes and anlyzing them)
- disable
- never do on network filesystems (which are?)
