You don't have to import any images. You must have an empty folder or a image
folder on your computer. Such a folder is an album for digikam. You have to set
this up under digiKam-> Settings-> Collection. DigiKam use an existing folder
as an album, digikam does not import the images into the database, only the
metadata.

Digikam will NOT work if you do not specify a folder in Setup under
Collections!
