I can't find any combination of settings that works properly still. This is still an issue with the latest Nvidia driver and kernel (both updated since my original report). And I've verified to be absolutely sure, downgrading back to the 440 driver (I tried just now with 440.82) completely fixes the issue. Compositing works perfectly on 440 with identical settings that are broken on 450.
