See the same issue under Fedora 31 with kdenlive-19.08.2-1.fc31.x86_64 where
the 'Selected zone' and 'Guide zone' options produce ~1 second render job
without usable output (but the same job works fine when rendered over the full
project).  Tried options rendering to a file as well as scripts.  Tried
changing the profile frame rate.  Tried reading in older projects and repeated
the same issue.  Would be happy just with a work-around... it's actually a
useful feature to have available.  I often render a big school concert
twice...once with every group performing (for the school) and a second time
selecting just the section with the ensemble that includes performers in our
family (for our video library).
