The explanation as I understand it is that the root of the problem is in Qt and it is either not possible, too difficult, or not viable to fix/work around it above Qt in KDE. Until it gets fixed in Qt, it won't be fixed in Plasma. I am currently living on Kubuntu 14.04 LTS which does not have this issue.
