Im on debian buster. tried recompiling from a fresh git master, same crash. Previous crashes generated ~300k files, so couldn't send due to the 65K limit for a bug report. Crash seems to be in the same place in those larger files. doing a commit via gitk works, so may not be a git issue directly. Happy to help with more info.
