So in search of trying to find a solution I thought that maybe some code is shared between the widget and dolphin. Seems I may be correct that changing how dolphin works fixes the problem in some bit of shared code. Perhaps my initial report is a case of too much information. Feel free to ignore all dolphin parts of this. The ability to drop files into folders in the widget is still broken with the default settings.
