            Bug ID: 405127
Summary: Desktop Effects Translucency slider controls
opaqueness of menu text rather than background
           Product: systemsettings
           Version: 5.15.2
          Platform: PCLinuxOS
                OS: Linux
            Status: REPORTED
          Severity: normal
          Priority: NOR
         Component: general
          Assignee: plasma-b...@kde.org
          Reporter: kde.b...@kjpetrie.co.uk
  Target Milestone: ---

SUMMARY
If a transparent Plasma theme is installed it is difficult to read menu items
against background text because the transparent background mixes menu text with
the text behind the menu. Adjusting menu translucency in Desktop Effects fades
the menu text but leaves the menu background fully transparent.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Install a transparent theme such as Agik-100-transparent
2. Open kwrite and load a text file
3. Open System Settings and navigate to Workspace->Desktop Behaviour->Desktop
Effects->Appearance and disable blur if enabled
4. Enable Tranlucency and open its configuration dialogue
5. Adjust the menu slider and click Apply
6. In Kwrite open the Tools menu and note the confusing appearance of the
combined menu and background text
7. Repeat 5 and 6 for various slider positions and observe the effect

OBSERVED RESULT
The menu text becomes darker or fainter.

EXPECTED RESULT
The menu background would become more or less opaque, hiding the text behind it
and enabling the menu text to be read more easily

SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS
Windows:
MacOS:
Linux/KDE Plasma: PCLinuxOS at 26th February 2019
(available in About System)
KDE Plasma Version: 5.15.2
KDE Frameworks Version: 5.55.0
Qt Version: 5.12.1

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
A strong blur will work around this but applies the blur to more than menus,
spoiling the transparency on the panel.
