For anyone that has the issue and needs to at least get back to the default
notification settings, edit the
~/.config/plasma-org.kde.plasma.desktop-appletsrc file and remove the
shownitems line that lists the items you selected to always show. Then log out
and back in. The bug also causes new programs that are started (such as pidgin)
not to show up in the tray until your session is reset. This bug still exists
in:
