Yes, it looks like I'll be better off using Thunderbird.

That's the sad thing about KDE: The desktop gets constantly more and more
polished and refined, but essential applications like Kontact, Konqueror, a
video player, a music player, etc. are badly neglected or given up completely.
What's the point in having the slickest desktop environment and then have to
run all essential applications from another (GTK) one.
