As far as I understand, this is a non-standard feature, so you should not demand support in XWayland, the settings should be in KWin itself. 2) Gnome somehow managed to implement the correct scaling of some X.org applications (Google Chrome) when changing DPI (dragging to another display). They may have applied not very elegant solutions, but if it is "just work," then what's wrong with that? I think the most important thing is a good experience of users of your DE, and beautiful technical solutions are only in second place.
