Maybe the notification sound is too low ? Check in the system settings > Multimedia > Audio Volume > Applications > Notification Sounds. I was just pointing out that, as of today, this Volume Feedback option toggle the playing of this sound, not the visual feedback. The only method I know of is to turn off the visual feedbacks entirely (so, not only the volume OSD).
