Question: The MySQL database trying to open already exists and has already been used by digiKam? If no, you first have to create a database user, create the digiKam database (possibly also for thumbnails etc.) and assign the rights. Look at the other tabs in the digiKam database setup, there it will be explained. An alternative would be the internal MySQL server, here digiKam tries to organize everything itself.
