If so the fix would likely be to have kdesrc-build-setup to use the same separate path for where the installed data would go, aside from $PREFIX/bin. Would it be possible to attach the kdesrc-buildrc (or .kdesrc-buildrc) that was generated by kdesrc-build-setup?
