I can no longer reproduce this with 5.12.
Part of the solution may have been that I cleaned up the
"plasma-org.kde.plasma.desktop-appletsrc" which contained some invalid and
duplicate screen numbers (lastScreen). Since some time, those entries didn't
seem to creep in again.
