In short my believe is that a backend model change does not update the QML code reliable. But this is a fragile area because there are other problems with it: https://phabricator.kde.org/D7768 When I wrote the new tooltips I hacked around this problem after not being able to write a proper solution for it for quite some time. I'm lacking the understanding of the backend / proxy code in this regard.
