It would be useful to let environment variable profiles apply to the entire
session (as early as that's possible during startup), not just to certain
sub-commands.
Among the use cases: session-specific logging settings or controlling optional
features that don't (yet) have a proper UI in the settings dialog for whatever
reason. For example, the documentation rendering backend plugins (chosen via an
env. variable) that were suggested not long ago (not by me!).
This would also require support for setting a session-specific env. profile.
