I have been digging a bit into this, this is what I found so far:
- xenial provides discover 5.6.4, I built 5.6.5 in a PPA for xenial, that
doesn't fix the issue
- if I'm not mistaken, this is not the packagekit issue pointed out by Matthias
(thanks for the info) because the packagekit issue doesn't affect the version
in xenial; it was affecting zesty but it was already fixed
- from a clean installation from the kubuntu iso 16.04.2 I can reproduce the
bug *without* updating the system
- from a clean installation from the kubuntu iso 16.04.1 (without updates) you
won't see the bug, however, as soon as you type "appstreamcli refresh" you will
get discover listing of installed packages broken
So I presume this is a "clockwork bomb" bug either in the old discover (or
appstream) versions provided by the Kubuntu LTS. I doubt very much this is a
packaging issue.
