Screenshot: Bluetooth sidebar entry not selected, switch sits higher than the
label and close to the right edge
SUMMARY
In the System Settings sidebar, entries that have a switch (Bluetooth, under
"Connected Devices") show the switch about 3 px higher than the label while the
entry is not selected, and the switch is pushed against the right edge. When
the entry is selected the switch is vertically aligned, but there is almost no
space between the switch and the right edge of the highlight.
STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Open System Settings and look at the sidebar entry Bluetooth (the one with
the switch) while it is not selected.
2. Select the entry and compare.
OBSERVED RESULT
Unselected: the switch is higher than the label text and close to the right
edge.
Selected: the switch is vertically aligned, but touches the right edge of the
highlight (little right margin).
EXPECTED RESULT
The switch is vertically centered with the label in every state and has the
same right margin as the other content.
SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS
KDE Plasma Version: 6.8.2 (systemsettings 6.8.2-1.1), KDE Frameworks 6.31.0, Qt
6.12.0
Distribution: CachyOS
Happens with and without the Breeze (Union) style.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
- The cause appears to be app/qml/CategoryItem.qml: the Loader that holds the
Switch uses Layout.fillHeight plus negative top/bottom/right margins (-padding
+ inset) to stretch it over the whole row.
- A copy of that row (three rows, one highlighted) was rendered in a test
window under kcmshell6 --style Breeze. It shows the same misalignment as the
sidebar.
- Replacing those four lines with `Layout.alignment: Qt.AlignVCenter` makes the
switch vertically centered in all rows and gives it a right margin in that test
window.
- Why only the unselected rows are off is not explained; the change was only
checked to fix both states. It was verified in the test window, not in the real
System Settings app.
- The file is unchanged in master as of 2026-11-06.
- No existing report was found for this (searched: systemsettings, Union,
bluedevil, Kirigami, qqc2 styles, plasmashell). Bug 527985 (Dolphin Places
misalignment) is a different, Union-specific problem.
