Classification: Plasma
Product: plasmashell
Version First 6.6.6
Reported In:
Platform: Kubuntu

Target Milestone: 1.0
Cannot register new global shortcut through System Settings on Plasma 6.6.6
Wayland
**Environment**
- OS: Kubuntu 26.04 LTS
- KDE Plasma: 6.6.6
- Session: Wayland
- Hardware: MSI Stealth 18 HX AI
**Steps to reproduce**
1. Open System Settings → Keyboard → Shortcuts.
2. Select Add New → Command or Script.
3. Enter a command pointing to an existing executable shell script.
4. Attempt to register the command.
**Actual result**
System Settings displays:
"Error while communicating with the global shortcuts service."
The shortcut is not registered.
**Expected result**
The command should be registered and available for assignment to a global
keyboard shortcut.
**Diagnostics**
- `org.kde.kglobalaccel` is registered on the session D-Bus and owned by
`kwin_wayland`.
- Existing global keyboard shortcuts work normally.
- The separate `plasma-kglobalaccel.service` exits successfully, as expected
under Wayland.
- No relevant errors were found in the queried user journal.
**Workaround**
Opening KDE Menu Editor (`kmenuedit`), selecting the existing application
launcher, and assigning the shortcut through its Advanced tab works correctly.
**Related report**
Bug 486897 describes nearly identical symptoms on an older Plasma version. It
was closed as WORKSFORME in 2024.
