Bug ID: 528264
Summary: DWD: station search misses many working stations (e.g.
Solingen)
Classification: Plasma
Product: plasmashell
Version First 6.8.2
Reported In:
Platform: Fedora RPMs
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
Severity: normal
Priority: NOR
Component: Weather widget
Assignee: [email protected]
Reporter: [email protected]
CC: [email protected]
Target Milestone: 1.0
STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Configure Weather Report → Weather Station
2. Search for "Solingen"
OBSERVED RESULT
No DWD station found.
EXPECTED RESULT
DWD station "Solingen" (K1170) is offered. It has forecast data:
https://app-prod-ws.warnwetter.de/v30/stationOverviewExtended?stationIds=K1170
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
DWDIon::parseStationData() only keeps stations whose ID starts with '0' or
'1' and stops at the first other ID. So only 1284 of the ~5650 stations in
the MOSMIX catalogue are used. Stations with letter IDs (K1170, H641, ...)
are never offered.
I checked all catalogue stations against stationOverviewExtended
(2026-11-03). About 1,590 of the filtered-out stations do have data,
1,358 of them in Germany. The rest don't, so just removing the filter
would add many empty results.
Possible approach: stationOverviewExtended accepts several comma-separated
IDs and leaves out stations without data (2741 of the 2742 returned stations
had valid data). The search results could be checked with one request per
search instead of filtering by ID.
One thing to watch out for: some names appear more than once in the
catalogue with different IDs (e.g. BERLIN-TEGEL is 10382, which works, and
X104, which doesn't). m_place is keyed by name, so with the full catalogue
the later, non-working entry would replace the working one.
I found this with the help of an AI assistant (Claude), which also ran the
station check. I'm not submitting a patch and would prefer the maintainers
to decide how to fix it.
