            Bug ID: 528293
           Summary: Mount Model Tool crashes (SIGSEGV) when
                    getWizardAlignObject() returns null (Any Stars, no
                    star within 5°)
    Classification: Applications
           Product: kstars
      Version First 3.8.2
       Reported In:
          Platform: Ubuntu
                OS: Linux
            Status: REPORTED
          Severity: normal
          Priority: NOR
         Component: general
          Assignee: [email protected]
          Reporter: [email protected]
  Target Milestone: ---

Starting a Mount Model alignment point in Any Stars mode crashes if no catalog
star is within 5° of the Halton point. getWizardAlignObject() returns nullptr;
startAlignmentPoint calls setTarget(*target) without a null check.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Align -> Mount Model Tool; wizard Any Stars; sparse sky region possible.
2. Generate points; Start / resume a point with no nearby catalog star.

OBSERVED RESULT
SIGSEGV in MountModel::startAlignmentPoint → Align::setTarget → dms on null.
Core dump on kstars-bleeding 3.8.2 (2026-07-06).

EXPECTED RESULT
Skip point, mark failed, or fall back; never dereference null.

SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS
Observed: 3.8.2.
mountmodel.cpp ~ getWizardAlignObject / startAlignmentPoint.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Workaround: Named Stars; check wizard table before Start.
