            Bug ID: 528289
Summary: Ekos mosaic Create Jobs: accented target name writes
Latin-1 .esq filenames while .esl paths are UTF-8
    Classification: Applications
           Product: kstars
      Version First 3.8.5
       Reported In:
          Platform: Ubuntu
                OS: Linux
            Status: REPORTED
          Severity: normal
          Priority: NOR
         Component: general
          Assignee: [email protected]
          Reporter: [email protected]
  Target Milestone: ---

When creating a mosaic with Create Jobs and a target name that contains a
non-ASCII character (e.g. French "Vénus"), the Scheduler ESL is written in
UTF-8 but the per-tile sequence files (…-Part_N.esq) are created with Latin-1
filenames. On a UTF-8 filesystem these are two different names, so the
Scheduler cannot open the sequences.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Open Ekos → Framing / Mosaic assistant.
2. Set Target name to: Vénus (U+00E9 LATIN SMALL LETTER E WITH ACUTE)
3. Select a valid Capture sequence (.esq) and an output directory on a UTF-8
filesystem.
4. Click Create Jobs (e.g. a multi-tile mosaic).
5. Load / evaluate the resulting Scheduler plan (.esl).

OBSERVED RESULT
- Scheduler log:
  Impossible d'ouvrir le fichier de séquence « …/Vénus-Part_N.esq »
(English equivalent: cannot open / invalid sequence file)
- The directory does contain Part_*.esq files, but a UTF-8-aware `ls` may show
them as Vnus-Part_N.esq.
- Hex check:
  - On disk filename: é encoded as single byte 0xE9 (ISO-8859-1 / Latin-1)
  - Inside the .esl XML (<Name>, <Sequence> paths): é encoded as UTF-8 bytes C3
A9
- An empty directory named with the UTF-8 spelling of "Vénus" may also appear
next to the Latin-1 .esq files.

EXPECTED RESULT
Create Jobs writes .esq filenames and .esl path strings with the same encoding
(UTF-8 on Linux), so QFile can open every sequence referenced by the ESL.

SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS
KStars: 3.8.5 (Flatpak)
OS: Linux, UTF-8 locale / UTF-8 filesystem
(Also reproducible context: French UI)

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
- Workaround: use an ASCII target name (e.g. Venus) before Create Jobs.
- After the fact: rename Part_*.esq to ASCII and edit matching paths in the
.esl (without running Create Jobs again).
- This is distinct from Twilight making daytime jobs unrunnable, and from
mosaic FITSDirectory path issues.
- Observed 2026-11-03; log excerpt ~10:51:58 CET: sequence file open failures
for Vénus-Part_*.esq
- Likely area: FramingAssistant Create Jobs -> createJobSequence / writing
…-Part_N.esq vs ESL XML writer.

Suggested fix direction: always use QString -> UTF-8 (or QFile::encodeName
consistently) for both the on-disk .esq basename and the paths embedded in the
.esl.
