DESCRIPTION
Starting with the releases of 2026, kdenlive stopped working for me with the
installable version:
If I open kdenlive, the welcome screen appears, but no matter what I choose
(new project, open, recent), the main window never appears afterwards.
Unfortunately I can't find any crash logs (please point me to them, if there is
a path to look at). Also starting kdenlive from a command line didn't yield
anything to be printed there (whilst the kdenlive docu actually says so)..
Now the interesting part: using the stanalone non-installer version works
reliably! (Thats also the reason why I didn't open this issue earlier.. there
was no real pressure on my side..)
I've heard some rumors, that this might happen if some broken vst plugins are
present. I did have a vst plugin installed in the past which eventually broke
and I uninstalled it - but maybe some "poisonous" remainders are somewhere? How
could I check that?
I am happy to create some kind of stacktrace / startup log for you, I just
found no way of telling kdenlive.exe to do so..
STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Start kdenlive via icon/exe/console
2. On the welcome screen, click anything that should bring up the main window
3.
OBSERVED RESULT
welcome screen will close, than nothing happens anymore
EXPECTED RESULT
kdenlive fires up its main window
