Just to add: I have also checked nmcli general permissions, and all
permissions—specifically org.freedesktop.NetworkManager.settings.modify.system
and network-control—evaluate to yes.

This rules out any Polkit restrictions or user privilege issues. The applet is
purely defaulting to an agent-stored secret (psk-flags=1) rather than
committing it as a system connection when KWallet is unavailable.

> Hi Marcelo,

> Yes, the issue still persists on Arch Linux with Plasma 6.8.1 (plasma-nm
> 6.8.1-1).
>
> To clarify the exact behaviour:
>
> Selecting a new Wi-Fi network from the system tray applet opens the
> inline password field within the list.
>
> Entering the password and clicking "Connect" fails to establish the
> connection immediately.
>
> Instead, a secondary standalone modal dialog ("Wi-Fi Secrets" /
> authentication window) appears on the desktop, requesting the exact same
> Wi-Fi password a second time.
>
> Why this occurs:
> When KWallet is disabled, the inline applet prompt fails to commit the
> secret directly to
> /etc/NetworkManager/system-connections/<SSID>.nmconnection as a system
> secret (psk-flags=0). Because NetworkManager receives the connection profile
> with agent-owned secrets (psk-flags=1) but no active wallet agent exists to
> provide it, NetworkManager triggers a D-Bus GetSecrets request back to the
> session secret agent. This forces the secondary modal authentication dialog
> to spawn.
>
> Once the password is entered into the second popup—or written manually using
> nmcli connection modify <SSID> wifi-sec.key-mgmt wpa-psk wifi-sec.psk <PASS>
> wifi-sec.psk-flags 0—the connection succeeds and does not prompt again on
> subsequent boots.
