> DESCRIPTION
> Even in VI mode, double-clicking a word used to select the entire word. This
> is useful to quickliy highlight all occurences of a variable or function,
> for example. Since Kate 26.08, when in VI input mode, double-clicking moves
> the cursor forward by one character instead of selecting the word.
>
> STEPS TO REPRODUCE
> 1. open a file in Kate
> 2. switch to VI mode
> 3. double-click on a variable
>
> OBSERVED RESULT
> cursor moves one character to the right
>
> EXPECTED RESULT
> the variable is selected and all its occurrences are highlighted
>
> SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS
> Operating System (available in the Info Center app, or by running `kinfo` in
> a terminal window): Arch Linux
> KDE Plasma Version: 6.7.5
> KDE Frameworks Version: 6.30.0
> Qt Version: 6.12.0

I have done the fix and created a merge request in ktexteditor repository, you
can compile it with my version to check the fix yourself and let me know if you
have any difficulties
