            Bug ID: 527295
Summary: Issues with system settings "responsive" layout
    Classification: Applications
           Product: systemsettings
      Version First 6.7.5
       Reported In:
          Platform: Manjaro
                OS: Linux
            Status: REPORTED
          Severity: normal
          Priority: NOR
         Component: kcm_networkmanagement
          Assignee: [email protected]
          Reporter: [email protected]

  Target Milestone: ---

DESCRIPTION

The responsive layout of the system setting window can be incorrect.

When the window width is sufficiently large, the responsive layout should give
you two left columns with the setting entries and the category entries. For
instance you may get the left most column giving you the main setting
categories and the second column giving you the sub-categories for the "Wifi &
Internet" category. When the window width drops below a specific threshold this
menu/submenu arrangment should collaps to a single column layout. At least this
is what I am experiencing on another machine than the one on which I am
experiencing the issue.

On this machine, this responsive behavior is never triggered and even if you
make the window small, you never end up with a single column menu/submenu
arrangement. This is already a problem because you waste a lot of screen area.
Even more seriously, when this happens, the rightmost column (the one with the
actual settings you want to change) is misrendered with its own right most part
cut out. The bottom scrollbar appears too late (namely you may have parts of
the content that are already cut out by the window border before the scrollbar
appears) and even when the scrollbar appears, it does not work properly (with
the scrollbar all to the right, you don't show the content up to its right
side).

STEPS TO REPRODUCE

1. Open the settings
2. Start with a large window
3. Progressively reduce the width

OBSERVED RESULT

- the layout never changes
- a part of the content is cut out before the scrollbar appears
- when the scrollbar appears it does not let you see the right part of the
content

EXPECTED RESULT

- when the window width drops below a certain limit the window is switched to a
layout with a single column for the settings main menu/submenu;
- if you keep reducing the width, as soon as the content cannot anymore fit in
the window, a horizontal scrollbar appears
- if you keep reducing the width, the scrollbar lets you show all the content

SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS
Operating System: Manjaro Linux
KDE Plasma Version: 6.7.5
KDE Frameworks Version: 6.30.0
Qt Version: 6.11.2
Kernel Version: 7.2.9-1-MANJARO (64-bit)
Graphics Platform: Wayland

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

The issue is particularly serious on laptops with small screens, where it gets
impossible to reach the "apply" button on the right.

The issue is related to the use of screen scaling.

If you set the screen scaling to 100% the issue disappears.

If you then set the scaling back to something larger than 100% the issue may
not appear again.
