Bug ID: 526152
Summary: Filesystem Browser plugin triggers an unnecessary
Polkit prompt when opening a local file after an
admin:// file
Classification: Applications
Product: kate
Version First 26.08.1
Reported In:
Platform: Arch Linux
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
Severity: normal
Priority: NOR
Component: general
Assignee: [email protected]

Target Milestone: ---
DESCRIPTION
With Kate’s Filesystem Browser plugin enabled and “Automatically synchronize
with current document” turned on, opening a file through Dolphin’s
administrator mode causes an unnecessary Polkit authentication prompt on the
next Kate launch, even when the newly opened file is an ordinary local file
readable by the current user.
Disabling the Filesystem Browser plugin resolves the issue.
STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Enable Kate’s Filesystem Browser plugin and its “Automatically synchronize
with current document” option.
2. In Dolphin, use “Open as Administrator” to browse a directory containing a
text file that requires root privileges to read.
3. Open that file in Kate and complete the Polkit authentication.
4. Close Kate.
5. From a normal, non-administrator Dolphin window, open an ordinary local text
file in Kate.
OBSERVED RESULT
Kate displays another Polkit authentication prompt (org.kde.kio.admin.commands)
EXPECTED RESULT
Should not trigger another authentication.
