CapScroll (https://github.com/netcrawlerr/CapScroll) is an open-source Linux
tool that already does this generically — you select a region, it auto-scrolls,
captures, and stitches, without any per-app integration. It's currently
X11-only, which is exactly why Wayland-native support in Spectacle would be
valuable. Could this be reopened given there's a working example that doesn't
need app cooperation?
