Bug ID: 524792
Summary: [Digital Clock] The tooltip text overflows when using
the system's default font if it exceeds 11pt, and the
middle-click fails to open KOrganizer.
Classification: Plasma
Product: plasmashell
Version First 6.7.4
Reported In:
Platform: Other
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
Severity: normal
Priority: NOR
Component: Digital Clock widget
Assignee: [email protected]
Reporter: [email protected]
Target Milestone: 1.0
SUMMARY
I am reporting two issues regarding the Digital Clock widget on Fedora KDE
Plasma (Wayland).
---
ISSUE 1: Tooltip text overflow with default system font on QHD
- Context: The clock's tooltip automatically inherits the default system font
(Cantarell 12pt in my configuration).
- Behavior: On a QHD display (2560x1440), hovering over the Digital Clock
widget displays a tooltip where the text overflows or gets clipped at the
borders.
- Impact: Reducing the font size to 10pt or below makes it unreadable on
high-resolution displays. The tooltip layout breaks when using standard system
font scaling/sizes.
---
ISSUE 2: Middle-click launches default calendar app ("The OS Other") but it
crashes instantly
- Context: Middle-clicking the Digital Clock is set to open the system default
calendar application.
- Behavior: When middle-clicking (scroll wheel click) on the Digital Clock
widget, the target calendar application starts to open but crashes/closes
immediately upon launch.
---
STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Set the global system font to Cantarell 12pt (or any font size > 10pt) on a
QHD screen.
2. Hover over the Digital Clock widget in the panel to trigger the tooltip.
-> Result: The tooltip box is too small and clips/overflows the text.
3. Middle-click on the Digital Clock widget.
-> Result: The application launches and closes/crashes instantly.
EXPECTED RESULT
1. The tooltip should dynamically expand to fit the text size set by the system
font (Cantarell 12pt).
2. Middle-clicking the Digital Clock widget should successfully launch and keep
open the default calendar application.
