Out of every official Plasma widget I used so far, the Quicklauncher one seems
to be the one in dire need of improvement to make it worth using in the long
run.
While I know its rather niche aspect, explaining why its so underdeveloped, its
of immense help to run apps without the necessity to do complex setup or having
to rely on 3rd party launchers dependent on whatever libraries and knowing you
will eventually be locked out when the author decides to stop development,
leaving you with no alternative than to seek different one... and that process
of seeking different launchers can be endless in cases when Plasma receives
does a major version leap and old widgets are no more supported, with nobody to
actually make them compatible.
Thing is, with the Quicklauncher, you get what you need immediately, at barely
any memory cost, easy to browse menu unifying all apps you use the most in one
place: pop the dropdown menu, open the app, done. No complex setup, no
scrolling through the Favorites category in the main menu, no extra clicks
which you are required to do if you use the Kickoff as an app launcher instead,
no opening full screen windows to open a single app. Sometimes the simplest
solutions are the most efficient!
I've compiled a list of common suggestions which for sure will benefit everyone
and will breathe life in the widget itself. As of now, its rather feature
limited, giving you barely any reason to use it. Those will come in handy if
someone decides to actually work on it...some day, of course.
Main widget:
[Essential] An ability to manage added apps through dedicated window, that
is saying how the KDE Menu Editor is: add single or multiple apps at once,
remove and reorder their position either by interface buttons or drag and drop.
Everything happens in one window. Saves the need to use contextual menu. Things
are easier this way.
[Kinda essential] An Ability to nest apps in custom named categories - take
for example how apps are structured by default in the Kickoff menu. Have
different folders for different types of apps, instead of putting everything
into one massive block.Makes huge difference if you have lots of apps you'd not
want to mix up.
[Optional] An ability to add separators for those who prefer to have a
giant list of apps rather than folder organized.

[Essential] Ability to set fixed size of the panel (width-height)
[Essential] Ability to control the size of the icons
