DESCRIPTION
When using IBus as the Virtual Keyboard / Input Method in a Plasma Wayland
session, holding down a key (such as '+' or 'a') triggers a sudden flood/burst
of repeated characters instead of standard key-repeat. This occurs
inconsistently, though activating Caps Lock appears to make the issue easier to
reproduce.
STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Go to System Settings -> Keyboard -> Virtual Keyboard and select "IBus
Wayland".
2. Open an affected application (e.g., KWrite, KRunner, or Discord).
3. (Optional, increases reproducibility) Enable Caps Lock.
4. Press and hold any key (e.g., '+' or 'a').
OBSERVED RESULT
A rapid flood/burst of the held character is registered into the text field in
an abnormal/unintended manner.
EXPECTED RESULT
The key should repeat smoothly, without flooding.
SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS
Operating System: Fedora 44 KDE Edition / CachyOS
(cachyos-desktop-linux-260809)
KDE Plasma Version: 6.7.4
KDE Frameworks Version: 6.25.0
Qt Version: 6.11.1
Graphics Platform: Wayland
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
- Isolation / Narrowing down:
1. The issue does NOT occur if the Virtual Keyboard in System Settings is set
to "None" or "Plasma Keyboard".
2. The issue does NOT occur in GNOME Wayland while using IBus (tested on
Fedora 44 Workstation).
3. The issue is present on clean, fully-updated installations of Fedora 44
KDE Edition and CachyOS (Plasma).
4. On Fedora 44 KDE Edition, the bug was NOT present on a fresh post-install
system before updates. It started occurring after applying updates via `dnf up
'kwin*'`. I have attached the full DNF transaction log containing the updated
packages for reference.
5. Tested and reproduced across multiple independent machines running updated
Fedora 44 KDE.
- Affected Applications:
- Reproduced in: KWrite, KRunner, Discord.
- Not reproduced in: Konsole, Firefox.
