Bug ID: 524199
Summary: Bug: KDE Virtual Desktops prevent proper suspend on
Lenovo LOQ
Classification: Plasma
Product: plasmashell
Version First master
Reported In:
Platform: Kubuntu
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
Severity: crash
Priority: NOR
Component: general
Assignee: [email protected]

Target Milestone: 1.0
DESCRIPTION
Today, I decided to try out the virtual desktops for better management of all
my programs for coding and work.
On a Lenovo LOQ laptop, enabling KDE Plasma virtual desktops appears to cause
suspend to fail.
Wayland session.
When the system is suspended with virtual desktops enabled, the display turns
off, but the keyboard backlight remains on. The laptop does not respond to
keyboard input or other normal wake-up actions, and the display does not come
back on.
The system has to be forcibly powered off/restarted to recover.
STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Enable virtual desktops in KDE Plasma.
2. Use the system's normal Suspend action.
3.1. Wait for the display to turn off.
3.2. This happens once every two or three suspends.
4. Press a keyboard key or otherwise attempt to wake the laptop.
OBSERVED RESULT
The display turns off, but the keyboard backlight remains illuminated. The
laptop does not wake when pressing keys, and the display remains off.
EXPECTED RESULT
The laptop should enter suspend correctly, with the keyboard backlight turning
off. Pressing a key or otherwise waking the laptop should restore the display
and resume the KDE session normally.

The problem appears to correlate with KDE virtual desktops being enabled.
Further testing is needed to determine whether virtual desktops are the direct
cause of the suspend failure.
The issue does not appear to be a normal display-only problem because the
keyboard backlight remains on and the system does not respond to normal wake-up
input.
