DESCRIPTION
I connected my laptop to a guest WiFi network. This WiFi network provides, like
many open networks do, a captive portal. Plasmashell suddenly crashed many
times. Unfortunately, I do not have the backtrace. I tried to get it but it
just sat there for 15 minutes doing apparently nothing. (It is my first manual
KDE bug report) - would be nice if you post yours if you manage to reproduce
this bug
STEPS TO REPRODUCE
Connect to a network with captive portal. Maybe the same bug will happen in
your case.
To open the captive portal in order to get internet connection, open your
browser via terminal and open google.com (often without https) and hope to get
rerouted to the captive portal website. If this does not help, maybe using your
router's IP address does (e.g. DHCP).
Follow the steps of your captive portal so you have an internet connection. Now
the issue is "resolved" FOR NOW and you can continue with your actual plans as
normal.
OBSERVED RESULT
Plasmashell crashes and automatically tries to relaunch - resulting in a crash
over and over again.
See STEPS TO REPRODUCE to temporarily "resolve" this issue.
EXPECTED RESULT
After connecting to the WiFi network, a small window with the captive portal.
Preferably like it does on macOS, for example. Either way, it should not cause
such problems as not everybody has the knowledge to open a browser by terminal
and finding out the captive portal site themselves. I heard of captive portals
opening automatically multiple times on Linux distros but never experienced so
myself in my six years of Linux usage.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Running the Wayland version of Plasma on a ThinkPad T450. I do not have any
other DNS servers set on my system - everything is set to automatic. I was not
able to reproduce this, unfortunately, as I selected 1-day-internet on the
captive portal's website and I leave this place soon.
