I tried digging a bit and it seems like gpgsm is stuck in the 90s :( and has no
OAEP support. Thus I think this issue also affects Trojitá, not just KMail.

Would it be acceptable (to the maintainers) if I made a patch that delegated
the CMS handling part to OpenSSL (or any other library, just not gpgsm)? It
would also provide a great opportunity to improve (user-facing) error handling
in general.
