Bug ID: 517714
Summary: Cursor size grows progressively when moving mouse
rapidly in circles (Wayland, Intel Iris Xe)
Classification: Plasma
Product: kwin
Version First 6.6.2
Reported In:
Platform: KDE Linux
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
Severity: normal
Priority: NOR
Component: wayland-generic
Assignee: [email protected]
Reporter: [email protected]
Target Milestone: ---
When moving the mouse cursor rapidly in circles, the cursor icon
grows progressively larger the longer the movement continues.
Once the mouse stops, the cursor returns to its normal size.
The effect is cumulative — the longer and faster the circular
motion, the larger the cursor becomes.
This issue only occurs on Wayland. On X11 session the cursor
size remains stable.
Steps to reproduce:
1. Log in to KDE Plasma Wayland session
2. Move the mouse cursor rapidly in circles
3. Observe the cursor growing larger over time
4. Stop moving — cursor returns to normal size
Expected behavior:
Cursor size should remain constant regardless of movement speed
or duration.
Actual behavior:
Cursor size grows progressively with movement duration.
System information:
- GPU: Intel Iris Xe (Raptor Lake-P, rev 04)
- KDE Plasma: 6.6.2
- KWin: 6.6.2
- Session type: Wayland
- Display: 1920x1080 @ 120Hz
- Scale: 100%
- OS: KDE Neon (Ubuntu 24.04 base)
- Cursor size: 48
- Cursor theme: Breeze_Light
- KWIN_FORCE_SW_CURSOR=1 set but does not resolve the issue
- EDR disabled, cursor acceleration disabled — issue persists
Additional notes:
The issue appears to have worsened after recent updates
(around early March 2026). Previously it occurred rarely,
now it happens consistently.
