SUMMARY
Currently, the implementation provided to create/apply custom modelines in a
Wayland session is restricted to CVT generated timings instead of allowing
detailed, custom timings for displays such as 15kHz CRTs, which require very
specific timings in order to properly function. Currently, the only way to use
15kHz CRTs is to generate and override the EDID with every resolution change.
My request is to allow for full, X11-style modelines, including interlacing
support, to able to apply modelines on-the-fly to specific displays, and to set
those displays to output said modeline. This would additionally be very useful
for programs such as switchres and GroovyMAME, which currently only function
under X11 (and raw DRM).
There is also the linux-kernel-15khz project by D0023R, which adds support for
things like interlacing to more modern AMD GPUs, if testing for interlacing on
modern hardware is a requirement.
