Bug ID: 517572
Summary: Sorting order in Gwenview View mode
Classification: Applications
Product: gwenview
Version First 25.12.2

Platform: CachyOS
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
Severity: wishlist
Priority: NOR

Target Milestone: ---
SUMMARY
I'm confused about the sorting order Gwenview uses when I'm in View mode and
just going through the photos in a directory using the '>' and '<' keys or
toolbar icons. Is there any way to get Gwenview to use the same mode as I've
set Dolphin and bash/ls to use, so I can see the photos in the same order
they're displayed in directory listings (pure case-sensitive ASCII is my
personal preference).
I guess this is more a feature request than a bug report, but an option to set
the sorting order manually in Gwenview would be wonderful.
STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Given a list of hundreds of collected photos with names like the following
in a directory:
2001MountainRanchCA.jpg
20030514_LilyKirschvink_FredaFaber.jpg
200310CAWorkers.JPG
2003BangaloreConvention.jpg
2015_Walla_Walla_full_size.jpg
2016-17_BCWorkersMap.JPG
201605Brett_Brian.jpg
20160727_PriscillaJenningsAndFriends.jpeg
201711LisaVanDenBerg_SaraLacock.jpg
2018AntrimIreland.JPG
2. Try to get Gwenview to display the files in ASCII order as shown above when
clicking through them in View mode. It will display a photo date-named with
just the year before a photo date-named with the year and month or
year/month/day, even if the year-only photo is much less recent.
3. Going through and manually renaming the photos is not a reasonable option,
but an ASCII sort order option would solve the problem.
OBSERVED RESULT
Photos displayed in wrong order.
EXPECTED RESULT
Photos displayed in correct date order.
SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS
Windows:
macOS:
(available in the Info Center app, or by running `kinfo` in a terminal window)
Linux/KDE Plasma: cachyos-desktop-linux-250828
KDE Plasma Version: 6.6.1
KDE Frameworks Version: 6.23.0
Qt Version: 6.10.2
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
It's not just date-named photos that are problematic; other naming schemes also
get mixed up.
Thank you for listening, and for the excellent-in-other-respects software!
