Not sure. Kdenlive would still freeze on systems with “insufficient” RAM if the
source files are big enough, like in case they have a decent bitrate, which is
not something unusual when the creator actually cares about the quality of
their final render. I don't know how exactly  Lightworks does this, but their
NLE can render long videos from quite heavy sources even on machines with
modest RAM. Given how expensive it has become, I think it's more important than
ever to actually fix the problem. Current solution is more like a workaround,
and while I realize it's not gonna be easy to implement a proper fix, I can't
do anything about RAM prices, nor anyone of us can.
