PNG and AVIF That Gwenview Displays Now Incorrectly. Regression. Compare To
NSXIV, Where They Are Displayed Correctly
# Tested Versions: #
gwenview-25.12.2 and gwenview-25.12.3
---
# What happens: #
a) incorrectly displayed:
Regression: Gwenview cannot display PNGs and AVIFs correctly anymore.
b) correctly displayed:
How to display photos CORRECTLY: use NSXIV.
---
# HOW TO REPRODUCE AND KNOW THAT THE PHOTOS ARE DISPLAYE INCORRECTLY: #
Compare a) and b).
NSXIV displays photos correctly, because that's how I created the photo, so I
know which is correct and which is not. NSXIV = corret. GWENVIEW (regression) =
incorrect (used to be OK, now is not).
---
# BUG: #
Gwenview is broken and has regressed. Cannot display PNGs and AVIF correctly
anymore.
---
# Regression Comparison Tests Conducted: #
DEBIAN 12 (LTS): Photos, both PNG and AVIF are displayed corectly in Gwenview.
NSXIV: always displays both photos correctly.
# Verdict: #
Regression in the latest Gwenview. Latest Gwenview cannot display photos
correctly anymore.
---
## Attatchments: ##
1. PNG, that is displayed correctly in Debian 12 Gwenview, but incorrectly in
the two latest KDE Gwenviews
2. AVIF, that is displayed correctly in Debian 12 Gwenview, but incorrectly in
latest KDE Gwenview
## Tested Versions: ##
gwenview-25.12.2 and gwenview-25.12.3
$ kinfo:
irrelevant; it's Arch as of today (mirrors sync'ed and up-to-date): $ doas
pacman -Scc && doas pacman -Syyu
---
P.S.:
Experimint:
Upgraded "avifdec" in Debian 12 (LTS) to ver. 1.4 and Gwenview still displays
AVIF correctly. It's all in Gwenview. Not in libraries then. Whatever Gwenview
is doing now makes it broken in one area that it's dedicated for: displaying
photos (do one thing, one thing only and do it good; here: just display photos.
I'm dispappointed).
