            Bug ID: 517422
           Summary: Regression in annotation performance
    Classification: Applications
           Product: okular
      Version First 25.12.3
       Reported In:
          Platform: Arch Linux
                OS: Linux
            Status: REPORTED
          Severity: normal
          Priority: NOR
         Component: PDF backend
          Assignee: [email protected]
          Reporter: [email protected]
  Target Milestone: ---

SUMMARY

There is a noticeable regression in the annotation tools with PDFs. I'm not
sure if it has happened recently after the update to 25.12.3 or due to other
changes (e.g. Qt 6.11 or Frameworks 6.23.0). Some examples where this
regression is very clear:

Use the yellow highlighter to select some text. The preview works smoothly as
before, after selection is done it takes 2-3 seconds for the text to actually
become highlighted.

The inline note suffers from a bad delay that makes very difficult to write any
text. After selecting the area for the note, from typing till the text is shown
can take several seconds.

Undoing any annotations with Ctrl + Z, for example, also takes several seconds
when before it was almost instantaneous.

I cannot reproduce this issue with e.g., djvu files, just with PDFs.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Open a PDF
2. Use the annotation tools as explained above

OBSERVED RESULT
Tools feel very laggy and delayed.

EXPECTED RESULT
Tools should feel fast and responsive as before.
