Video of my monitor screen, showing a black background, comparing the Color
settings and showing black level raise on Efficiency mode
SUMMARY
When using the Prefer Efficiency setting in KDE's Display Settings, parts of
the image that should be black or near black, have their brightness raised to a
very dark grey when in HDR mode.
STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. In "Display Configuration," set "Color Accuracy" to "Prefer Efficiency"
2. Observe a dark image with spots that reach pitch black
3. Switch between either Prefer Color Accuracy and Prefer Efficiency, or switch
HDR on or off.
OBSERVED RESULT
The darkest parts of the image will look slightly brighter, or more grey, than
they should be when set to Prefer Efficiency, rather than Prefer Color
Accuracy.
EXPECTED RESULT
The darkest parts of an image, such as black, should be produced as black
SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS
Linux: CachyOS
KDE Plasma Version: 6.6.0
KDE Frameworks Version: 6.23.0
Qt Version: 6.10.2
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
This does not occur on either accuracy modes when HDR is turned off.
This behavior happens regardless of the calibrated brightness settings, and the
brightness percent setting in the Configuration settings menu. It occurs based
only on if HDR is on or off.
Attached is a video of a black background on my PC, where I turn the Color
Accuracy setting between the two, showing the light emitted off the monitor
when set to Efficiency.
