Kicker's sidebar text being overly elided by its scroll bar, as well as by a
fixed sidebar width
SUMMARY
I use Plasma day-to-day on my Framework 13 (which features a 3:2 display
ratio). It'd be nice if the Application Launcher widget could be made a bit
more compact and space efficient in terms of horizontal space usage.
When the widget's vertical size is small enough (in my case, roughly half the
vertical screen space of the display), the sidebar's text ends up cut off by
the scrollbar, and there's apparent no way to resize the sidebar to accommodate
the text length, nor to simply hide the sidebar (i.e. by dragging the
horizontal splitter line or something).
STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Activate Application Launcher widget
2. Resize the widget to the size depicted on the left section of the attached
screenshot
OBSERVED RESULT
Sidebar text is extremely cut off by the scrollbar, and even without the
scrollbar, there's lots of elided text. There is no way to hide the sidebar.
EXPECTED RESULT
The user ought to have the option to hide the sidebar, or stripped of its text
and use only icons. Perhaps there could be an option in the widget settings
that would allow hiding the sidebar completely. Instead of displaying the
sidebar, just make the whole menu span it horizontally, showing all
applications, with favorites at the top of the menu (and thus visible on open),
sorting the items in alphabetical order, or by category (in sidebar-listed
order).
