Being able to ring my iPhone from my desktop is enormously useful if I misplace
my iPhone in my apartment.
One of the disappointments with KDE Connect (at least the ancient version
offered through the Linux Mint repositories) is that I can't make the iPhone
ring from my desktop without KDE Connect running in the foreground on the phone
itself.
There is a way to do it without that requirement.
It requires connecting to iCloud. This is the process:
) iCloud login>Find device
) All Devices>your device>Play sound
At first, my iPhone only vibrated when I did this. The iPhone settings have to
be correct. I wish I could tell you what they all are, but it took a call to
Apple Support to get them all straightened out.
It works now. Since I connect to iCloud through my browser, I can do this on
both Linux and Windows machines.
I am running:
Apple iPhone 12
iOS 18.5
Distro: Linux Mint 22.1 Xia base: Ubuntu 24.04 noble
Kernel: 6.8.0-60-generic arch: x86_64 bits: 64 compiler: gcc v: 13.3.0
clocksource: tsc
Desktop: Cinnamon v: 6.4.8 tk: GTK v: 3.24.41 wm: Muffin v: 6.4.1 vt: 7 dm:
LightDM v: 1.30.0
