Summary: Feature Request: Internal Wiki-style Links for
Zettelkasten - [[Note Title]]
Classification: Applications
Product: Marknote

Target Milestone: ---
I am requesting a crucial feature for Marknotes to enhance its utility as a
knowledge management and Zettelkasten system: the ability to create internal
links between notes using a simple, wiki-style syntax.
Problem:
Currently, Marknotes lacks an efficient and intuitive way to connect related
notes. This significantly hinders the implementation of a Zettelkasten method,
where interlinking is fundamental for knowledge discovery and organization.
Users are forced to rely on external file managers or manual searching to
navigate between related ideas, which breaks workflow and reduces productivity.
Proposed Solution:
Implement support for internal links using a syntax similar to that found in
applications like Obsidian or Zettelnotes, specifically: [[Note Title]].
Desired Functionality:
When a user types [[ followed by text, Marknotes should offer an autocomplete
suggestion of existing note titles.
Once a valid [[Note Title]] link is created, clicking on it should open the
linked note within Marknotes.
Ideally, these links should be bidirectional, meaning that when viewing 'Note
B', there should be an indication or a list of notes that link to 'Note B'.
(This could be a follow-up enhancement, but the basic linking is the priority).
The system should gracefully handle renamed notes (e.g., update links
automatically or provide a warning).
Benefits:
True Zettelkasten Support: Enables users to build a robust network of
interconnected ideas, fostering deeper understanding and creativity.
Improved Navigation: Allows for quick and intuitive navigation between related
concepts, significantly enhancing the user experience.
Enhanced Knowledge Discovery: By linking notes, users can discover unexpected
connections and develop new insights.
Increased Productivity: Reduces friction in the note-taking and knowledge
retrieval process.
Competitive Parity: Brings Marknotes closer to the functionality offered by
leading knowledge management tools.
This feature is fundamental for anyone serious about using Marknotes for
personal knowledge management, research, or complex project organization. Thank
you for considering this request.
